Might as well add some content --
My "Dream-Joy-Magic" reading for today was Justice-The Lovers-Seven of Swords. The Seven of Swords is interesting; I think in this case it represents procrastination, which I've been doing a lot of since I discovered Second Life . . .
Last weekend I added a new tarot deck to my collection: The Gilded Tarot. The best part was that I bought it at Half Price Books for only $7.98, and it was brand new, still in its shrinkwrap.
It's really a bit more, well, more than I usually like in a deck, i.e., I prefer a less "shiny" design, but I couldn't resist it for the price. It's a lovely addition to the collection, I think, but I still prefer my old standbys for reading.
I was looking at my tarot decks this morning to see if there were any that I forgot to list, and I thought about the fact that I have several other divination decks, not just tarot decks. There's one that I bought just because it was so beautiful -- The Voices of the Saints, with pictures of, obviously, saints.
I obviously just like cards of all kinds.
What do you collect?
I suppose I collect a lot of things -- books, CDs, yarn, knitting magazines . . . but the only thing that I really think of as a collection is my collection of tarot cards. Some I buy myself, some I've received as gifts. Bob gave me the Dragon Tarot for Christmas last year, and my friend David gave me the Tarot of the White Cat for my birthday last year, even though he doesn't care for tarot decks that are other than completely traditional. Now that I think about it, I think he sent me the Durer deck as well.
I love all kinds of decks--traditional ones (my favorite is the De Angelis Universal) and wacky, unusual ones like the Tarot of the Dead or the Dragon one. A journal reader and friend, Liora, sent me the Housewives Tarot (one of the wackiest!).
My current collection:
- Angels Tarot
- Bruegel
- Leonardo Da Vinci
- Dragon Tarot
- Tarot of Durer
- Fairy
- Fairy (mini)
- Goddess Tarot (Kris Waldherr)
- Haindl
- Halloween
- Housewives Tarot
- Osho Zen Tarot
- Old English
- Rohrig
- Tarot of the Dead
- Tarot of the White Cat
- Universal (De Angelis)
- Universal (mini)
- Victoria Regina
The Universal is the one that I use the most. I bought the Rohrig one in Sarasota, Florida a long time ago, just because I liked the cards. It's not one of my favorites anymore, now that I really know a little bit about tarot. The Leonardo Da Vinci one is the first one I bought when I decided to really get into it; after I started learning more about tarot, that deck didn't really work for me. It's beautiful, but it's not really traditional enough for me to read from yet.
The Victoria Regina, the Osho Zen Tarot, and the Angels Tarot I got at the secondhand bookstore, all very exciting finds, especially the Victorian one, which is out of print and hard to find.
I'm also (very slowly) designing my own tarot deck. I'm not very far along with it, but it's always kind of in the back of my mind.
