What are your top five favorite cooking seasonings?
Submitted by skip.town.
I guess that goes along with the spice rack. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to either cooking or spices. Salt, of course. I like dill; I use cumin in guacamole; I use ground mustard in fondue. I once put a healthy dose of rosemary into a spaghetti dish I was making, instead of Italian seasoning -- I tried to get most of it out, but left a little in, and it wasn't bad.
My spice preferences are pretty pedestrian. It's coming up on Thanksgiving, which always makes me think of sage, which I like, and poultry seasoning, which is mostly sage, I think.
Show us your spice rack.
I love my spice rack. I ordered it from McCormick, and it came pre-filled with spices. We've replaced most of them over the years, sometimes replacing something that we never use (curry, for instance), with some that are more useful to us. The ones with black caps are the newer ones, while the ones with the green caps are either those that came with the rack, or ones we replaced early on.When I ordered it, I had expected to be able to put it on the wall underneath one of the cabinets, but it wouldn't fit, and we ended up having to hang it on the wall over the sink, and right under the light. Not the best place for spices, I'm sure, but it's convenient, anyway.
Where do you get recommendations for new books to read?
My main source is a newsletter that I get from an independent bookstore--the Raven--in Lawrence, Kansas. They're mainly a mystery bookstore, and they send out a periodic newsletter listing upcoming books from mystery writers. I go through the list, highlighting books that I want to read, then, if they're hardback, usually request them from the library. If they're paperback, I make a note in my PDA of the release dates so I can go buy them at the bookstore or order them from Amazon.
Do you own all the albums of any particular musical artist or group? Who?
Submitted by dutterman.
David Knopfler -- he completed my collection after we met, sending me copies of his first three albums which were out of print at the time, as I recall. And Dire Straits while he was with them, but nothing after he left.
I have all of the albums of the original Marillion--while Fish was with them, nothing after that--and Fish, of course. Let's see, who else ... Marc Cohn, Paul Young, Chris Rea. Chris DeBurgh, Paul Carrack, Adam Ant. I haven't listened to much music lately. I listen to audio books in the car, mostly, and when I listen to my iPod, it's at work, solely to drown out whatever may be going on out in the main room, if I need to concentrate. Since I screwed up my knee, I haven't been taking walks, but now that the weather is cooling off, I may start that again, and dust the iPod off for that.

The other family members require more specific things. The cats:

And for Bob:

What are the 5 words that best describe your life right now?
Obsessive
Busy
Happy

Sleepless
I was eating lunch with the guys at work, and one of them said he'd really been a nerd last night. We asked him what he did, and he said he spent about four hours playing three songs in "Guitar Hero." I said, "I bought a Harry Potter t-shirt in Second Life." He said, "You win."
Posh and Becks have moved to Los Angeles: [is this good?]
The right question isn't "is this good?" but "Who cares?"
What are five things that most people don't know about you?
Submitted by mika.
I can't think of much that people don't know . . . One thing that almost no one knows is my name in Second Life (and I'm not telling -- but if you're in it, email me and I'll tell you, I just don't want it publicly known).
New Harry Potter tomorrow!
